The first main event took place in South Cumbria in October 2009 and was called Rule of Thirds.
It was a one day gathering of creative thinkers to discuss the impact of digital culture on the creative workflow, and explore the exciting, developing opportunities for how we create, communicate and collaborate.
North isn’t just about the official events. We’re putting just as much effort into creating conversations online, and we want as many people to get involved in sharing and discussing ideas as possible.
We’ve set up our own social network (it’s a bit like Facebook, and just as easy to use) which anybody is welcome to join and contribute to.
We use Twitter to publish the latest news and announcements, plus the most interesting and useful content from our online network.
And don't forget, it’s a two way conversation: you can also send us interesting tidbits and inspiring info.

North is a programme of events and activities aimed at inspiring creative professionals to do things differently. Itʼs taking place in Cumbria throughout 2009 and 2010, as part of the AND (Abandon Normal Devices) festival.
The programme aims to explore innovative and progressive approaches to creative working, influenced by digital technology and new methodologies. we want to inspire debate about the impact of digital culture on creative workflow and explore its affect on how we create, communicate and collaborate.
The programme also seeks to offer alternative approaches for the creative industry sector by exploring and learning from wider industry.
Discussion will not be focused on any one, particular industry or discipline. Instead, the programme will take inspiration from a wide breadth of industry, and the application of new ideas and technology: work ethics, news media, social inclusion, healthcare, education, housing, empowerment, politics, entertainment, entrepreneurship, etc, to discover new models for creation which will enable creative professionals to develop new work, products, programmes or devices for a new digital era.
